Accessibility

Kept is for everyone who wants to do things with other people. That includes people who use screen readers, keyboards, magnification, captions or reduced motion. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA across the website and the app.

What we do

• Colour and contrast. We measure contrast for our colour pairs. Body text is at least 4.5 to 1 against its background, and our bright colours are only used behind dark text, never behind white text.
• Keyboard. Every link, button, menu and form works with a keyboard, with a visible focus ring. There is a “Skip to content” link at the top of every page.
• Motion. Animations are short and purposeful. If your device asks for reduced motion, the site turns animation off.
• Text alternatives. Illustrations that carry meaning, like the diagram of how a hold works, have text descriptions. Decorative pictures are hidden from screen readers.
• Structure. Pages use real headings, lists and landmarks, one main heading per page, and labelled form fields with clear error messages.
• Zoom and text size. Pages work when zoomed to 200 percent, and on screens as narrow as a small phone, without scrolling sideways.
• Plain language. We write in short sentences and plain words, including in our policies.

At plans

Hosts can describe accessibility on a plan, such as step-free access, seating, pace or noise level. If a plan does not say, ask the host in the plan chat before you commit, or ask us and we will find out.

Known limitations

• Area maps on plan pages are illustrations. They come with a text description of the area, and the exact address is given as text once you join.
• Photos in albums are added by members, and most do not have written descriptions yet. We are working on letting people add them.
• Some older pages may not meet every guideline. If you find one, please tell us.

If something on Kept is hard to use, write to support@keptplans.com with the page and what happened. We read every message, and we treat accessibility problems as bugs to fix, not requests to consider.
